⭐ Overall Score: 4.4 out of 5 stars
Co-op Funeralcare strikes a balance between affordability and reliability. Its wide range of plans, flexible payments, and consistently caring staff make it a strong choice for families seeking trusted, accessible service backed by a well-known national brand.
How It Works
Co-op’s prepaid funeral plans let you fix key funeral costs at today’s prices, helping protect against future price rises. You can pay in full up front in a single lump sum or spread the cost over a term that suits you. All payments are held securely in the Co-op Funeral Plans Trust and released only when the funeral takes place.
Every plan includes:
-
24-hour collection within a 50-mile radius.
-
Professional care of the deceased.
-
A dedicated funeral director to arrange and conduct the service.
Pricing and Plans in Detail
Co-op Funeralcare offers five main plans, each designed for different needs and budgets.
Direct Cremation Plan — from £1,395: A simple, unattended cremation with no funeral service. Includes collection within mainland UK, professional care, cremation at a Co-op-chosen crematorium, and return of ashes. Third-party fees: Fully guaranteed.
Simple Funeral Plan — from £3,225: Provides all essentials for a straightforward, attended funeral: basic coffin, care and preparation, and hearse to the nearest crematorium or cemetery. Service time is about 20 minutes, weekdays only. Third-party allowance: £1,150 towards cremation/burial fees, minister and doctor fees.
Bronze Funeral Plan — from £3,675: All the essentials plus increased flexibility around scheduling, additional transport and a better-quality wood-effect coffin. The plan includes the use of a hearse + one limousine, and more flexible scheduling to include weekends as well as weekdays. Third-party allowance: £1,150 contribution.
Silver Funeral Plan — from £4,070: The silver plan balances cost, quality and guaranteed cover for third-party fees: wood-effect coffin, viewing of the deceased, hearse + one limousine, and full third-party costs guarantee. Third-party fees: Fully guaranteed (cremation, doctor and minister).
Gold Funeral Plan — from £4,395: The premium option, including a superior coffin, full preparation and dressing, hearse + two limousines, and priority service times. Third-party fees: Fully guaranteed.
What are third-party costs?
Third-party costs (sometimes called disbursements) are fees paid to others involved in the funeral, not the funeral director. They usually include the doctor’s certificate, minister or celebrant’s fee, and crematorium or burial charges.
In Co-op’s plans, third-party costs are:
-
Fully guaranteed on the Silver and Gold Plans – meaning Co-Op will cover these costs in full, no matter how much prices rise.
-
Capped or allowance-based on the Simple and Bronze Plans – meaning a fixed contribution is set aside, and your family may need to pay any difference if actual costs are higher at the time when you need to use them.
